Open Question: Is it true that drinking water helps you to lose weight?

Like, not if it is replacing soda, because of course if you are drinking 500 calories worth of soda a day, and you replace it with 0 calories you will lose weight. I mean by its self does it contribute to weight loss? Im not asking if it makes you healthy either, i already know that it is good for you. I've also heard some people say it makes you gain weight, and that kinda scared me when I heard that, it doesn't make you actually gain weight does it? They were just meaning water weight right? One last thing, does drinking make you feel hungrier?? I have heard a couple people say that you will be hungrier if you drink more, is that true??? Thanks.
