Open Question: step up weight loss for temporary or permanent results?

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

I walk to and from work usually although it’s been raining here a lot so I haven’t been walking much. it’s almost exactly one mile between work and my house. then i’m on my feet working hard for about 5-7 hours. later when it gets dark i often take my dog for a walk around the neighborhood. aside from that i have classes two days a week from about noon to about 8 at night and do a fair amount of walking there including lots of steps. i’ve been watching what i eat and how often i eat. i’ve inherited my mother’s hypoglycemia so i have to eat something every once in a while anyway. therefore i just eat about 5 meals a day. i drink a lot of water. the place where i work is always very dusty and i get thirsty very often while i work. we have a big water filter thing so i usually fill my water bottle about 4 times while i’m there. the water bottle is a vitamin water bottle that i’ve been washing and using over and over. i don’t really drink vitamin water. i’m always busy so walking is really all i have time for. when i’m not busy i’m totally wiped out and just want to chill. my favorite thing to do on a day when i don’t have to be at work and don’t have much school work though is to go hike the nearby trails. there are also trails near the college that i drag my friend to and we eat our dinner there on our break. i’ve been doing this for a while, but i have inherited the same situation as my biological father (or so i’ve been told) and would have to be doing constant weight training, situps, and strict dieting ALL the time like he did in order to lose the weight i want to lose which is about 20 lbs. I have a very important trip in 2 months. i want it gone by then. i can decrease the cost of my trip if i borrow some snow gear from a friend who for some reason thinks i’m the same size as she is. i’m looking for pills that will work or cleansing systems that won’t kill me. i don’t care if i start to gain the weight back afterwards. i’m really psyched about this trip and want to look my best…and pay as little as possible. any help will be greatly appreciated- thanks!

Is There Such Thing As a Good Healthy Diet That Can Burn 2 - 4 Pounds of Fat Per Week?

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

A good healthy diet will constrict and constrain daily calorie intakes. There’s no getting around that fact. However, cutting back dramatically on calories is extremely counter productive to fat loss. Fat loss is really what we’re all after.

Open Question: Under active thyroid - should I be tested again?

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Was diagnosed with underactive thyroid at 18 (am 28 now) have been on 100mcg but during last pregnancy it was upped to 125mcg a day but since having my baby 6 months ago I have felt awful. I am tired, my hair has been falling out at the root, I cant seem to lose weight no matter how hard I diet and exercise, I have bad joint pain and pain in my thighs, I have mood swings and feel quite depressed, and my periods are all over the place.
I know it sounds ignorant but I have never really read anything about my condition I just trusted the drs to know what was best but since looking up thyroid recently I think my symptoms mean I need a higher dose or something. My only concern is if I get the test and its fine what else could be wrong with me?

Open Question: Anybody have health history of anxiety?

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Well I’ve had the fear of throwing up since i can remember. It usually happens alot almost everyday and i keep on telling myself that i won’t since it never happened yesterday and the other day but to tell you the truth i have a health history of anxiety so i guess I’m bound to have lot of fears. I also have fears of losing weight and coming so skinny that my ribs show. Ugh .. its the worst feeling. Sometimes my anxiety leads to not eating. Its been passed down since my great grandmother. Does anybody have this? Is there a natural way instead of taking medicine and counseling?

Open Question: Weight loss through swimming?

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

I train 1 hour in the pool every day (breast stroke and front crawl) and thought it is a good way to lose weight.

However, I have read a lot about swimming not being ideal for weight loss.

I don’t really need to lose a lot of weight, but would like to drop a few pounds.

I enjoy swimming, but I’m really upset now after reading all the articles that state that swimmers develop an extra fat layer.

So is my swim training a waste of time?
What are your swimming experiences with regards to general/overall fitness and weight loss?

Thank you!
